Variable‐air‐volume (VAV) systems have been used to provide comfort
in a wide range of building types and climates. This ENL will discuss
design and control strategies that can significantly reduce energy use
and ensure proper ventilation in variable-air-volume systems.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify ASHRAE Standard 189.1 requirements for variable-air-volume systems
- Summarize how to properly apply air‐to‐air energy recovery in a VAV system
- Summarize how to implement optimized VAV system control strategies
- Summarize how to design and control cold‐air VAV systems
