Airside economizers are an effective way to save energy and operational cost in many unitary and air handling systems. In some instances, the promise of energy savings hasn’t been fully realized. This course discusses current energy code requirements related to economizers, how economizers can be used to save energy, common problems, and how modern design and technology can be used to ensure that the expected energy savings are realized.
- Summarize airside economizer energy code and standard requirements.
- Identify common issues that affect correct and reliable economizer operation.
- Incorporate new technologies (e.g. fault detection and damper design) to maximize the energy benefit of economizers.
- Summarize how to use economizers in different types of equipment.
